Coy D is an emerging company focused on a burgeoning niche within the consumer foods market. It has developed a range of highly innovative products which are gaining wide acceptance in a number of countries. The company had been entirely funded by the proprietor for many years, but he came to the realisation that he would need an injection of equity capital to realise all of the commercialisation opportunities which were presenting themselves.
Coy D approached Wingarra BMI to work up a financial model which would underpin the information memorandum being prepared for presentation to a number of potential investors. Wingarra BMI designed and constructed a model which allows both the proprietor and potential investors to test multiple variable sets simultaneously in order to assess the feasibility of various commercialisation pathways. An investor has now come on board and the business plan is being successfully executed.
Among the specific variables the model allows to be tested, both independently and interdependently, are the following:
Product and customer parameters:
- Full product range (including packaging sizes) – existing range and anticipated products to be released over five years modelled
- Target market penetration assumptions – units by product by region by month by year
Revenue parameters:
- Sale prices - by product by region by year
Production parameters:
- Production timing – relative to month of sale
Direct cost parameters:
- Contract manufacture costs - %age of wholesale prices in Y1 and volume discount rates for Y2 to Y5 – by product by region by year
- Packaging manufacture costs - %age of wholesale prices in Y1 and volume discount rates for Y2 to Y5 – by product by region by year
- Distribution, storage and sales costs - %age of wholesale sale prices and incorporating allowance for pallet packing, etc – by region
